TD-SCDMA Update
June 15, 2007

- According to a Shanghai Daily report dated June 14, Datang Mobile has obtained China Mobile's tender to build TD-SCDMA access networks in Guangdong Province and Shanghai. For the network in Shanghai, Datang will deploy 1,200 to 1,500 base stations. In the same report, a Datang official was quoted as saying that the company will focus on TD-SCDMA network construction and chip research but has no plan to launch Datang-branded TD-SCDMA phones in the near future.

- China's Ministry of Information Industry recently published 130 detailed rules, which are recommended standards rather than legal statutes, for China's 3G mobile communications industry. The 130 rules apply to all three official 3G standards in China: namely, CDMA2000, WCDMA, and TD-SCDMA. The rules have taken effect, having been issued to all related government agencies and the six major basic telecom operators.
